Help them to stand proud again

The Restore the Beacons Charitable Trust is committed to raising funds to see these landmarks survive another century.

These two historic structures have been welcoming and farewelling people from the Hawke's Bay region for 125 years.

Their contribution to the early development of our region has been enormous. It is time to give them the respect they deserve and bring them back to their form glory.

The Beacons

The Beacons made a significant contribution to the economy and growth of early Hawke's Bay by safely guiding ships into Napier's inner harbour to pick up agricultural goods for our growing export market.

Beacons are iconic landmarks, familiar to thousands travelling along State Highway 2 – north of Napier and enjoying local walking paths and cycleways. For generations, they have welcomed and bid farewell to visitors entering and leaving our district.

Unfortunately, current neglected state sends a poor message about our care for historic assets and our community. With some repair work, we can restore the beacons to their former glory so they can stand as proud symbols of our past again.

The Trust

Our committee of volunteers is committed to the project to Restore the Beacons. We have set up a charitable trust and are looking to begin our fundraising. We have engaged individuals and organisations with skills and experience to support the project.
